Dipperstar was just about to run forward and help Whisperpaw, but then he heard the hiss and realized it was nothing worse than the hunting mistake earlier. "That was a great leap," he called, sitting down again with his tail around his feet. "It's easier if you imagine the enemy in front of you. An enemy warrior is attacking the nursery. Ambush him and defend the kits." He wasn't sure if Whisperpaw would take the game seriously, but if not he had many other ideas to try. This one would test his quick thinking for sure.

Whisperpaw nodded, familiar with the game. He used to play it often with the other kits in the nursery. He tried to picture some large stormclan warriors bursting into camp and heading for the nursery. Crouching low, he sprand up, this time clawing at the imaginary warrior's nose. He dropped back down quickly, landing on his four paws this time. He glanced at his mentor, wondering how well he did.

"Much better!" Dipperstar watched aprovingly then he continued the game, deciding to test Whisperpaw's skills further. "One behind you, on his hind legs," he called, taking a step sideways to give his apprentice a hint on what to do. So far he had picked up everything with ease, so if he had been watching other warriors practice fighting, it shouldn't be too hard for him to figure out.

Whisperpaw whipped around quickly, imagining a huge warrior rearing up and preparing to come down on him with unsheathed claws. If he's on his hind legs, he thought meticulously, then his belly's exposed. Grinning with the thrill of the pretend game, he quickly sprang to the side and lashed out a paw at the same time. He landed awkwardly, off balance, but he quickly caught himself and stood straight, worried that his mistake might have been too noticeable.

Whisperpaw was learning faster than Dipperstar had expected. The little stumble was no big deal as it was his first day, and he had managed just fine afterward. Then it would do him good to get a greater challenge. "Good job," Dipperstar called, then he growled playfully. "But there's a Sunclan traitor here. How can you handle that?" He raced forward at full speed, and, just before he reached Whisperpaw, he jumped over him and landed behind him. Then he let out a fierce roar to intimidate the apprentice.

Whisperpaw whipped around, glad for a more challenging goal. Now he was fighting a real warrior. He noticed how much bigger dipperstar was than him; he wouldn't be able to strike using the same techniques he'd seen the older warriors using. He decided to apply the move he had just learned. Crouching low and offering a fake hiss, he sprang into the air and lashed out towards his mentor's face, making sure his claws were sheathed.

Dipperstar stepped to the side quickly and reached out a paw to trip Whisperpaw in mid air. "Not quick enough," he purred and took a step away. "I told you, be careful with that move. It leaves you exposed for a long time, so don't use it in a frontal attack. You're small and fast, so do everything you can to confuse the bigger enemy before you use it. And always think your next move through before your first is done." He raced forward to attack again, rearing up like like the pretend warrior he had warned Whisperpaw about before, ready to pin him down.

Whisperpaw nodded, ready this time as dipperstar reared up. He quickly lept to the side before he could come down on him. He whipped around quickly, already sure of what he would do, like his mentor had told him. He dove forward and pawed at his hind legs to draw his attention away from his front. Then he quickly lept away, and ran for his flank, hoping his technique would confuse him.

Dipperstar's paws crashed down on the bare ground where Whisperpaw had been a moment before. When he felt paws against his leg, he whipped around and jabbed after his attacker with one paw. But Whisperpaw was gone again and Dipperstar hit nothing but air. he wouldn't want to make it too easy for him, even if it was his first day. The sooner he learned how to deal with a moving target, the better. Dipperstar spun around, quickly as a squirrel, and faced Whisperpaw defencively.

Whisperpaw lunged quickly forward, raking his sheathed paws along dipperstar's flank. He was surprised he had reacted so quickly, but he couldn't show hesitation. He continued with his previous method, since it was too late to change. A thousand scenarios went through his head as he swiped at his mentor. He knew the most likely thing he'd do was reattack, and he had to be ready to dodge what ever he threw at him.
