"That's too bad, but you stalking technique is already very good," Dipperstar meowed, trying to cheer Whiperpaw up again. "Just keep your focus and your tail straight behind you, or the mouse will know you're there. Then all it takes is practice." He looked over his apprentice quickly, but it seemed like nothing but his pride had been hurt. A small scraping sound caught his attention and the scent of prey came drifting on the wind. "There's one over there, if you want to try again," he said, pointing with his tail at a place a few foxlenghts downstream, though not too close to the river.

Whisperpaw pricked his ears, still resentful he'd missed it, but intent on catching the next one. He nodded quickly and swiftly turned around creeping silently towards the river where dipperstar had pointed. He dropped into the hunter's crouch and slid forward, then froze. He glanced behind him to make sure his tail was straight, not brushing the dead grasses like last time. He focused hard on the path to the mouse, making sure he took his mentor's advice. It took him longer to get close enough, so his paws tingled with anticipation when he was a fox length away. He crouched low, bunching his mucsles, then sprung. He landed heavily, but his paws slammed down on the mouse. It started to panic in his grasp, and he quickly bent down and bit it's neck. He picked the limp prey up and walked proudly over to dipperstar, displaying his catch as if starclan had given it to him them selves.

Dipperstar followed Whisperpaw with his eyes as he made his first catch. "Great job!" Whisperpaw was really doing well on his first day out. "It's a bit tricky right now, but it'll come to you more naturally once you've gotten used to it. And when we've eaten we can see if you fight as well as you hunt," he added and took a bite of his mouse. It was rather small, but would do well enough until they got back to camp. It was gone almost as fast as he started, so he sat up and gave his paws a quick wash.

whisperpaw devoured his mouse quickly, excited to get in some battle training. he sprang up once he'd finished, bouncing lightly on his paws. he could vividly imagine himself in battle, fighting to protect his clan against stormclan. He knew he'd be great. he shook, ecstatic, waiting for dipperstar to lead him to where they would train.

"Ready to go then? It's right over there," Dipperstar said, taking the lead toward the dead field. If Whisperpaw was as good at fighting as hunting, they would have to concider a warrior ceremony before greenleaf, but he wound't get his hopes up too soon, although the apprentice's skills seemed to be promising. "Here we are." Dipperstar padded into the open field with his tail held high, stopping in the middle. "Before I teach you any moves, I want to see what you can figure out on your own. First, try to get past me." He gave Whisperpaw a challenging look, as if telling him to start, standing steady with his paws far appart.

Whisperpaw crouched, deciding his motive. He guessed he was small enough to get under his legs, but he could just crush him if he wanted to. He decided to sprint around him. I can do it, He thought, bunching his muscles in his hind legs, I just have to be quick enough. taking a dep breath, he pushed off, heading for the right side of dipperstar.

Dipperstar watched Whisperpaw as he was thinking and when he suddenly moved, Dipperstar was ready. He took a few sidesteps to block his path, eyes gleaming with a challening light. He wouldn't let him win too easily, but was careful not to put up too much of a challenge either. He would get to see just how quick Whisperpaw's reactions were in a heartbeat.

Whisperpaw slowed for a heartbeat as dipperstar blocked his path. He had waited too long thinking! he quickly decided to go along with his previous plan; to dive under his belly. He quickened his pace imediately, making sure his pause hadn't been too noticeable. Sprinting full speed, he dove in between his legs.

Dipperstar had expected Whisperpaw to continue in the same direction as before or turn around and go the other way, but when he raced straight ahead instead, Dipperstar wasn't ready to counter it. He would have been ready for it with a more experienced apprentice, but Whisperpaw was not. Before he could block the path, it was too late. "Quick thinking," he meowed, thinking he had been right to pick Whisperpaw as his apprentice. "We'll start with some basic moves now. You already know that one you used, just be careful with it in a real battle. You never know how quick your enemy can be before you try it." he stopped for a moment, thinking of which move to show first. "This move is great to use as an ambush aswell as in regular battles." He gathered his legs under him then lept high into the air, lashing out with his paws at invissible enemies as he came down and landed neatly. "It leaves your belly exposed though, so use it wisely. Now you try it," he urged.

Whisperpaw watched his mentor carefully as he demonstrated the move, trying to imagine himself doing it. When it was his turn, he gathered his paws beneath him and lept, but he started lashing out too late, and he landed heavily on his side. He huffed as he hit the ground, hissing in frustration. He hadn't been focused enough, and surprised himself when he missed the right moment to do the attacking part
