Mintblossom leaped clumsily into the river and padded out to erase her scent. She struggled out and padded ahead, waiting for Stormcloud a bit downriver. She felt her kits wriggling around. She would have her kits in less than a moon. "Would you like to hunt before we leave?" She mewed, "I haven't eaten since the Gathering. Prey is scarce."

"No." Stormcloud shook his head as he waded after Mintblossom. "It's better if we leave now, before anyone finds us. Though we're almost out of the territory already. As soon as we find a safe place to hunt, we will." He brushed his cheek against hers and purred. The part of tha river that belonged to Sunclan would be quick to walk through. When he reached the border, he stopped. "This is it," he said, taking the first step away from the clans.

Mintblossom padded beside him, tears in her eyes. "I can't let the clan know about the kits, but I won't be alone." She purred, trying to twine her tail with his. "I love you, Stormcloud, more than the clan likes me. I have loved you since I was an apprentice, and I don't intend for the love story to end now, with leaving the clan."

He let her tail touch his, purring softly. "Me neither," he replied. Although leaving the clan was a last resort, he couldn't imagine a better reason why or a better cat to leave with. "I will go to the end of the world with you if I have to, and I'll take care of you where ever we go." He didn't mind the mud and cold water on his feet as long as he was with her. Up ahead the river made a small bend and went into something that looked like the outskirts of a twoleg place. "Do you think we should go through there?" Stormcloud asked. "I'm pretty sure the others won't try to look beyond it."

She purred. "Let's go through it. No clan cat would go near it. Do you think we should find some shelter? Or do you think we should go on?" She waited for his answer, anticipation prickling through her paws. "I would like to thank you for coming with me. A mate worth a mousetail would leave me alone, but you... You're worth more mousetails than there are mice in the world, not just for coming with me." She licked Stormcloud's gray forehead.

(Do you think we should move the thread to rogue territory while they're away?)

(I don't think we need to. The rogue and loner territories are pretty restricted too.)
"We'll look for a place to rest once we've gone through," Stormcloud decided. "I won't risk the others finding our track here, so it's best if we stay in the water until we reach the other side." He waded on and soon large twolegs nests came up on one side of the river. There were some on the other side too, but there were few of them and large fields beyond. Just overhead there was a small thunderpath bridge, but the only monsters he noticed could only be heard further away. Yet he felt the need to be silent in this unfamiliar place, a silence he kept until they had passed by all the nests on the second side of the river. "I think we should try to find some prey here," he said, looking at Mintblossom for a sign of aprooval.

Mintblossom didn't hear Stormcloud. She was already stalking a fat water vole. She inched closer to it, and leaped to swiftly kill it. Even pregnent cats were faster than fat water voles. "Would you like to share?" She mewed, "But throw the bones into the river. We don't want any cats knowing we came through here. If our trail leads to the river, they will think we got washed away. If we leave the bones here, they will follow us." She looked at the blood-red sky. "We should get going. We can settle in a twoleg garden, and the clan must know we're gone by now."

Stormcloud felt his mouth starting to water at the sight of the fat prey. He hadn't seen something so full of food in a long time and it would keep them both going for a while longer. "I'd love to," he purred. He took a bite of the vole and pushed it over to Mintblossom, then noticed her looking up. He realized it was much later than he had thought already. "I think that's the best thing for now. I should find some traveling herbs for both of us too. You can eat the rest of that one," he pinted at the vole. "You need it more and I can find one for myself later." Stormcloud wondered how the kittypets were around here. He had heard stories of big an brutal ones, who, with the constant access to food, had grown much stronger than any Sunclan warrior at this time of the year, and he wasn't even a warrior. But he didn't think he needed to tell Mintblossom to be careful. After all, she had been on a long journey before. "How about there?" He pointed at a place a little farther downstream, a twolegs nest with the garden pointing away from the river and towards the small thunderpath that ran between all the nests. "It smells of so many twolegs around here, so it'll mask our scent well."

"That is a great idea." Mintblossom smelled the air. "Not even a sniff of kittypets or dogs. Just twolegs and catmint." She walked over to the center of the twoleg garden and settled on a fern. "I have heard stories about a vast land of mountains and forest just beyond the twoleg nests. It is a bit far, but we can make it." She mewed, "We can do anything together. I can do without travelling herbs." Mintblossom left for a moment, and came back with a lot of moss. "How about we settle over there?" She meowed, pointing to a large, tall tree with low-growing branches.
