Mintblossom sat by a large tree. Her fur was dull and ragged. She was too thirsty to wash herself. She made sure every cat in the clan got a drink before her. She found a small puddle and lapped it up, then washed. Her fur, however, was still a bit dull. Mintblossom looked up from her washing and saw Stormcloud, and immediately sat up. "Today, we are going to learn- wait, where's Whitepaw? Wasn't she supposed to come too?" She mewed. She actually hoped that Whitepaw wouldn't show up. She wanted time alone with Stormcloud.

Stormcloud was walking through the parched grass to meet Mintblossom. He carried a bundle of watersoaked moss in his jaws to share with her before the training. He shook his head and dropped the moss in front of her. "She's resting," he meowed. "It's just too hot today." He gave the bundle a poke with his paw. "Drink as much as you can before we start." His voice was that of a serious medicine cat, giving his patient and order, but his eyes watched her with love and care. "So what was I going to learn today?" he purred.

"How about we learn the leap-and-roll? Sure, it is an apprentice move, but sometimes I feel as small as a kit." She mewed.

"Well, I'm not that big either," Stormcloud laughed. "And I'm only a warrior apprentice, so it should suit me. How do you do it?" He sat down with his head tilted and tail around his front paws, eyeing her like an apprentice on its first journey out of camp just to fit his role. He had much fun with this training already, but he didn't see any reason not to make it even more fun.

"Well, when you are pinned down, you should claw the enemy's belly with your hind claws to get off. Then, you leap, and try to get a hold of the back. The enemy will roll to get you off, then go for either the neck or the belly." She ran over to him to paw him down, but she realized how slow she was. Panting, she only reached halfway. "This is one of my slower days..." She breathed. Her belly was twice the size as it was a moon ago.

Stormcloud watched her with worry. "I don't think that would be a good move to practice for you right now," he said, concerned. "Maybe we should do something else?" He hoped she would realize how little she needed to fight right now and step down on her own and postpone the battle training until a later time. "Maybe we just should go to the river for a drink," he offered, thinking she needed as much water as possible now.

"You're right, I need a drink." The river wasn't far off, and she needed to keep her strength up. She knew she was having kits soon now, and the due date wasn't very far. "Stormcloud, I am having kits in about a half-moon. I know that now." She licked his forehead to show affection. "I-I can't live in the clan with kits."

Stormcloud walked with careful steps on the rough grass, keeping his pace the same as hers. "What are you saying?!" His eyes widened in panic. "Are you going to Stormclan and Herbfeather?" That couldn't be what she was thinking. It couldn't! That wouldn't solve anything as it was right now, so she had to be thinking of something else.

"No... StormClan knows me, and would probably bring me back, and we'd start over. I want to head downriver, maybe stop at the crystal cave for guidance first. If the kits are born in this clan, they could tell. I want to run away. I'm not even going to return to camp."

"Run away?" Stormcloud's mind was racing, but this might be the chance he had be looking for. If they did run away, they wouldn't have to see the kits grow up in another clan and he wouldn't have to step down from his position. "Then I'm going with you," he said with pure determination in his voice. "You need a medicine cat to take care of you and your kits. He stopped, realizing they had reached the river. "We'll follow it. They won't be able to track us down if we leave no traces behind."
