The sun was starting to set, making his fur orange, as Dipperstar walked up the slope to the Crystal Cave. His paws were worn and his belly was growling after the long journey, but at least he could rest now. Hunting would have to wait until after he had spoken to Starclan. He turned to Sootclaw and Lynxpaw who were traveling with him. "You two can hunt now if you wish," he meowed with a purr. "We have to wait here until it gets dark." He sat down on a patch of moss outside the cave entrance and wrapped his tail around his front paws, looking at the sky as he waited.

Sootclaw nodded from where he sat, the journey was long. His paws felt like he had water in them but he rose up anyway. "Want me to catch something for you to?" he asked over his shoulder to Dipperstar. His darkened tail twitched switched back and forth, soon the darkness would cover the land and StarClan would come out.

Lynxpaw's stumpy tail quivered with excitement, an opportunity to hunt on his own! "I'll try for something, but I'm still learning all of our stalking techniques. Oh boy, if I catch something by myself Pinefur will be so proud of me!" he said in one long breath before spinning around and bounding off.
No sooner had Lynxpaw gotten away from the others to hunt on his own, he could detect the scent of a rabbit nearby. He crouched down low, his muscles tense and ready to spring after the prey when it came closer. Sure enough, a good-sized rabbit bolted right in front of his nose. Lynxpaw sprinted after the creature, matching every direction change it made until he finally got close enough and reached out with his front paw, smacking it's back legs and sending it into a tumbling heap. After killing it with one bite to the back of it's neck, he remembered to give thanks to Starclan for providing him with prey.
Lynxpaw quickly dragged the rabbit back to the entrance of the Crystal Cave. "Look what I caught!" he mumbled around a mouthful of fur.

"No thank you. I'll catch something on the way back," Dipperstar called to Sootclaw and watched as Lynxpaw darted away. He turned his gaze back to the sky and watched the sinking sun. Only a few rays were showing now and soon the moon would rise to its position. Then Lynxpaw caught his attention again as he dragged the rabbit back. "Well done," Dipperstar exclaimed. "I'm sure your mentor will be pleased by this. Make sure you tell her when we get back. Now eat up. We'll go inside once Sootclaw is back and has eaten too."

Sootclaw nodded to Dipperstar and chuckled as he watched Lynxpaw bound off, and started off the opposite way from the young apprentice. After he was in a patch of forest he scented the air, catching the underlying scent of mouse. His eyes narrowed and he shifted his weight as he watched a fairly plump mouse scurrying along the bottom of the tree searching for food. He slowly approached it, swatting it into a arc in the air. He pounced quickly and ended it's life quickly before making his way back to a waiting Dipperstar and Lynxpaw.

Lynxpaw nodded eagerly and began to tear ravenously into the rabbit, trying to remember the last time he had had a rabbit this plump from the fresh-kill pile. Not for a while, he thought as he sat up licking his chops. He prayed silently to StarClan that SunClan would stay healthy enough until the safe return of Mintblossom and Stormcloud.
He frowned as he pondered what could have happened to the clan's Deputy and Medicine Cat. Hopefully StarClan would have the answers for Dipperstar. "What's going to happen inside of the Crystal Cave? Will StarClan speak to me too?" he asked turning to Dipperstar. Lynxpaw had always wondered why Starclan gave him a stumpy tail instead of the long and luxurious tails the rest of the clan posessed. Did he do something wrong? Or was there some higher purpose?

Dipperstar flicked his tail in greeting when Sootclaw returned and watched the sky again while he and Lynxpaw ate. The light of the day was fading and the moon was starting to rise in the distance. They would have to go inside soon. When Lynxpaw spoke, he turned around and looked at him. "Only I will speak with them this time, but who knows," he said, looking at the apprentice with a glint in his eye. "Maybe it'll be your turn one day. Usually they only talk to medicine cats and clan leaders, but every once in a while they have plans and prophecies for warriors and even apprentices. You'll see what happens down there when we go." He rose to his paws and looked from Lynxpaw, to Sootclaw and back again. "Are you two ready to go then?"

(sorry I've been gone up my Moms ><) Sootclaw nodded, sitting a few steps away from the two as he quickly ate his mouse. He half tuned in to there conversation with mild interest. Sootclaw finished his mouse and buried the bones under a small pile of dirt. "Sure thing, do you think they'll give you the information you need?" Sootclaw asked as he stared into the mouth of the cavern. He rose to his paws and padded towards the entrance, wondering what the cavern would smell like if he could. Maybe like clean water? Clean water tasted good so maybe it smelled good to..' he mused in his head as he watched his clanmates to make the first move.

"I surely hope so," Dipperstar answered and got to his paws. "Either way, they always tell me something important, even if their way of saying it can be hard to understand." He padded straight into the tunnel and followed the path until it opened up in the cave at the end. He remained completely silent as he walked over to the pool, where he lay down and touched it with his nose. At once Dipperstar fell asleep, and when he opened his eyes, he was standing by the river back in his own territory. It was brimming with water now and the dark surface glittered as if all the stars from the night sky were resting on it. In front of him two flowers were blooming on the waters edge, and everywhere around there was whispering. At last he managed to focus enough to hear what the voices were saying: "The river brings a secret gift." He had gotten the reasurance he needed, but when the dream started to fade, a strong current picked up in the river, washing the stars away. A second message was whispered to him, but it was so faint and when he woke up from his dream he wasn't sure if he had caught it right. He shook his head to clear it and rose to his paws. "They told me there is hope for us yet," he anounced happily.

Lynxpaw had rolled over on his back and was staring up at the roof of the cave while Dipperstar spoke to Starclan, quite satisfied with the full stomach he was able to achieve earlier with that large rabbit he caught. How proud Pinefur would be! But he doubted he could get his warrior name just yet, he had just barely gotten his 'paw name.
He was just starting to doze off when Dipperstar spoke, "Really? Did they tell us where to find them? I hope they did, I'm getting really worried about the two of them. It's kind of scary not having a medicine cat around in case one of us gets hurt, though we still have our medicine cat apprentice." The words came out of his mouth in a rush, this entire situation made him very nervous.
